When I first decided to sell my story I went straight to a magazine having no idea that there were agencies that dealt with these things. The magazine’s offer was far lower than I’d expected, they even advised me NOT to bother with an agency as I would not get a higher price as the agency takes a high percentage of my earnings which is completely false!
I’m glad I went against their advice and emailed Front Page Story Agency as within 5 minutes of sending my story in I had a phone call back from Sara Lain from Front Page Story, who was lovely to speak to. She assured me she could get me a lot more than any magazine so I took her up on the offer. In the end I signed a contract for more than TWICE the magazines offer plus I have another publisher willing to buy my story for the second time.
Not only did I get more money but more importantly to me Sara Lain soon became more of a friend than anything else. When some of my family disowned me for wanting to tell my mum’s story she was there for me with a non judgmental ear to hear me out. I could talk to her day or night with any worries I had. So I would say to anyone thinking of selling their story to go to Front Page Story BEFORE the magazines or papers for the best deal financially AND emotionally. I emailed them my story but you can ring or look them up on Facebook which is handy
